Dr. Harris, do baby teeth really matter?

Yes! Baby teeth have several really important functions.

Baby teeth hold space in the jaws for the adult teeth and help give the face its shape and form.

Decay of baby teeth puts childen at a higher risk for decay in adult teeth, so taking good care of baby teeth is really important. Make sure that when you purchase toothpaste for your children, you see the ADA Seal of Acceptance so that you can be sure that it meets standards for safety and effectiveness. Also help your children establish good eating habits and try to limit between-meal snacks.
